Club Statement
Following the merge of two volleyball clubs: Weymouth Waves Volleyball Club and Weymouth Beach Volleyball Club, it is important that we give an update to the community about the future of the Club.
The Club is now known as Weymouth Volleyball Club. The club is a completely separate entity to the local leagues happening on a Tuesday and Wednesday evening. Not everyone that plays volleyball in Weymouth will necessarily be a member of the Club, but we are all one community that will always support each other and welcome players to training sessions. Feedback over recent years has led us to remove ‘Waves’ or ‘Beach’ from local league team names, to hold the joy that a mixture of teams can bring. We are here to enhance the sport in the town, promote progress and be competitive across a variety of platforms.
We recognise, and ask for patience in the scenario that, some logistics will take time to sort. A lot of work is going on behind the scenes, but please raise any issues with the Club, so that we can address them in the event they have been overlooked.
The Club now uses Spond to operate the majority of its teams. It will take some time to get every member of a Weymouth Volleyball Club session onto Spond, but we will get there. Previous admin-only WhatsApp group chats will gradually be used less for a more inclusive, all encompassing system. As well as Spond for monthly memberships, we’re looking into the viability of Ticket Tailor to support ‘pay as you play’ sessions. More to come on that in due course.
There are opportunities for anyone aged 8+ to get involved with volleyball and make it all the way to the top levels of the National League. This is by no means the Club trying to take over volleyball in the town. On the contrary, over the last few years there have been more sessions created and opportunities on offer than there have ever been before.
We are very welcome to suggestions and comments and they will be considered in committee meetings moving forward. With regards to equipment use - items such as balls are owned by the Club and for the use of its teams in training and matches. They are not for use by the general public.
We are extremely grateful to our sponsors: Enzo Ristorante, Kane Autos Engineering, Massage Weymouth and Torster Travel.
